Basics about cemented carbide and carbide rods
Cemented carbide is a hard material that is widely used as a tool material, as well as other industrial applications. It consists of cemented carbide fine particles bonded by a metal binder. Carbide tungsten carbide (WC), titanium carbide (TiC) or tantalum carbide (TAC) as aggregate. The "carbides" or "tungsten carbides" mentioned in the industrial context generally refer to these cemented composites.
In most cases, cemented carbide tools
leave a better surface finish for components and are faster than high-speed or other tool steels. Carbide tools can withstand higher temperatures than standard high-speed tooling at the tool-workpiece interface (this is one of the main reasons for faster cutting). Carbides are generally superior in the cutting of hard materials such as carbon steel or stainless steel, as well as in the case of other cutting tools that wear rapidly, such as in mass production.
