Experimental device

Experimental device
Cemented carbide is widely used in cutting tool industry, and because of the brittleness of hard material, super abrasive wheel is needed. In many cases, the use of resin bonded grinding wheels, though the material removal rate Q'w is limited, can achieve good surface and tip quality. In the past few years, new hybrid bonding specifications have been developed, which indicates that the productivity and quality improvement of flute grinding process has great potential. Therefore, the grinding test is carried out on the bonding of different grinding wheel specifications, and the grinding force, the surface quality and the tip quality of the flute are analyzed.

The grinding test is carried out on the 5 axis tool grinding machine WU 305micro of Alfred H. Schutte GmbH in Cologne. Equipped with 3 translational and 2 rotary linear drivers, the grinding force is evaluated by analyzing the current from the machine controller.
For each grinding experiment, three grooves are grind around the cemented carbide blank to avoid running in effect. In order to determine the working result easily, the helix angle is set to X = 0 degrees, and the advancing angle Xv = 2.5 degrees. After third flutes, material removal is achieved at Vw = 1700mm3, and the working results and process parameters are analyzed.
